Community Action

JLSD is dedicated to supporting the needs of our community partners and the individuals they serve through a hands-on community project. Currently, we are focusing on our Diaper Bank and Period Pantry.

Established by JLSD in response to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on San Diego community, the Diaper Bank and Period Pantry help families who face difficult choices, such as deciding between feeding their family, purchasing diapers, or buying feminine products. Many families struggle to work due to a greater need for child care.

Through the Diaper Bank and Period Pantry, we have donated thousands of diapers and feminine products to a variety of community partners, including the following (in alphabetical order):

  • Family Services Transitional Housing Program
  • Jewish Family Services
  • Monarch School
  • Rady Children’s Hospital
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego

Strategic Community Partnership

JLSD aims to establish and maintain relationships with community partners and identify potential partnerships. We work with community partners to determine their needs and provide direct service and advocacy support.

In addition, JLSD connects our community partners with our other initiatives based on their specific needs. We provide training opportunities for nonprofits and collects feedback to ensure effective communication and service.

The current project is the Infant Formula Resources Guide, which provides a list of resources for families struggling with the nationwide formula shortage. A compiled list of resources with printable brochure is available here.

Community Impact Service Projects

JLSD plans and executes community service projects in partnership with dozens of nonprofit organizations in San Diego. These projects address immediate needs through single-day, high-impact volunteer shifts. JLSD collaborates with our community partners to determine the overall goals and needs of the nonprofit organization regarding volunteer shift arrangements.
