Advocacy
The Junior League of San Diego (JLSD) is committed to advocating for positive change in the San Diego community. Through our Advocacy Committee and State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC), we work to educate our members and the broader community about important issues and connect with local elected officials to make a difference. As a member of the Junior Leagues of California State Public Affairs Committee (CalSPAC), JLSD is part of a larger network of women volunteering their time to advocate for legislative change in areas such as education, family support, health, human trafficking, and violence prevention. Advocacy
JLSD is committed to making a positive impact in the San Diego community through effective advocacy and legislative efforts. Our Advocacy Committee strives to raise awareness and educate our members and the broader community about food insecurity, which is our focus area. We also work collaboratively with elected officials and our Community Partners to promote positive change in our San Diego.

State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC)
JLSD’s SPAC works to educate our members on important community issues and provide legislative advocacy training. SPAC connects with Local elected officials to learn about issues affecting our community and how JLSD can advocate for efforts to improve lives.

Junior Leagues of California State Public Affairs Committee (CalSPAC)
JLSD is a member of the Junior Leagues of California State Public Affairs Committee (CalSPAC), which advocates for legislation in the areas of education, family support, health, human trafficking, and violence prevention. CalSPAC represents 17 member Junior Leagues, including JLSD, comprised of over 8,500 women who volunteer over 110,000 hours to 121 community projects, and give over $1 million dollars annually to their communities.
CalSPAC, established in 1971, has
- Represented the interests of its member Leagues and their community projects to policymakers at the national, state, and local levels
- Advocated for legislation in the areas of education, family support, health, human trafficking and violence prevention.
- Sponsored six bills and co-sponsored three bills that are now California Law
- Sponsored two California Resolutions; and co-sponsored one Congressional Resolution.
The CalSPAC delegation is tasked to
- Advocate for specific legislation relevant to member League issues
- Educate their home Junior League members about advocacy and public policy
- Coordinate the exchange of information from community-based league projects to policymakers
